Bargara Little Athletics Centre

The Committee is constantly working towards improving our facilities and equipment and the following items have been identified to be implemented before the start of our 2009 season.

Upgrade to existing track.           Cost $0.        Complete by 31st December 2008.

We have approached Council and asked that they improve our track for us for next season by fixing the sprinkler heads (some don’t work and others are ineffective), spray the area for weeds (they have already sprayed for bindies) and apply a layer of topsoil as soon as possible so that the grass can be properly established for next season.

Replacement of damaged equipment.          Cost $10,908          Complete by 31st March 2009

Water penetration of our equipment storage facilities has resulted in the deterioration of our present high jump bags to the extent where they now need to be replaced.    Additionally, some of our other equipment has been damaged through normal use and must be replaced.     In an endeavour to expand activities for our senior athletes from next year, we also need to purchase a few items of additional equipment.     Grant funding will be sought for this.

Purchase of Photo Finish System.          Cost $34,786          Complete by 31st March 2009

In an endeavour to improve our athletes’ times and to condition them to the use of electronic timing and photo finish which is used at higher level championships, the Committee has decided to purchase a system similar to that used at higher level. This equipment includes a wireless starting system, electronic starters gun, a public address system for use by the starter and a new laptop computer to capture the photographs.     Grant funding will be sought for this.

Construct a building at the finish line.          Cost $50,000 (est)          Complete by 31st March 2009

This building will compliment the photo finish equipment and provide the facility for commentary and announcements to be made.    The photo finish camera needs to be mounted 6m from the track edge and 6m above ground level to obtain the optimum view of the finish line.    This building will be constructed above the current timekeepers stand which will eventually be removed and remodeled as a mobile place judges stand.    Grant funding will be sought for this project.

Professional Athlete Coaching.          Cost $15,000 (est)          3 x 2 day sessions in 2009 season.

The Committee is looking to engage the services of one or more professional or highly experienced coaches to teach our athletes the correct techniques of every event we conduct.     Each session will run for 2 full days during the school holidays in April, June and September 2009 and will include lunch and morning and afternoon teas catered by a local organisation yet to be decided.    Grant funding will be sought for this project.
