Bargara Little Athletics Centre

Wehaveadream

.... a dream that one day our athletes will have an elite facility to call home.

Following recent exploratory talks with Crs. Greg Barnes and Lynne Forgan from Bundaberg Regional Council, we are encouraged to believe that such a facility is not entirely out of the question.

Council have identified a need for more and better sporting facilities along the coastal strip and a facility such as proposed by us would fit a part of that scenario nicely.

There is no IAAF Certified athletics facility with a synthetic surface between the Sunshine Coast and Townsville.   This means that elite athletes in that area and extending way out west would be encouraged to come to Bargara to train for such events as State and National titles as well as the Olympics.

Our proposal is receiving widespread approval and encouragement from all sections of the community.   Not only will it provide much needed facilities, it will create jobs and provide a significant contribution to the local economy through it’s need for ongoing services such as administration, catering, cleaning, security, maintenance and accommodation for visiting athletes.

A facility similar to that envisaged

We have received some very welcome indications of potential use with the Queensland Little Athletics Association advising that they could put 2,500 athletes on the ground and approximately 8,000 to 10,000 people in the grandstand for their State Relay Titles which are held over a 2-3 day period.    And that is just one organisation.    Queensland Athletics have also indicated that they could make good use of facilities of this standard and other organisations, including local schools, are in the process of looking at how such a facility can meet their needs.

The Gold Coast recently announced that it will bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.    This event will attract elite athletes from all over the world and what better place for them to train while they acclimatise to our weather than right here in Bargara.
